WOMEN EMPOWERMENT THROUGH SELF-HELP GROUP: A STUDY OF UDAIPUR CITY

Abstract

For the development of family, community, region and country women play an important role. So it is very necessary to make women socially and economically strong and capable according to their interest areas. Self-help Group plays an important role in the society of rural and remote areas and performs various kinds of activities in the development of society through awareness among the local people with the help of local citizens. Empowerment is an active multidimensional process to enable women to realize their identity, position and power in all spheres of life. The empowerment of women is one of the central issues in the process of development of countries all over the world. Involvement in Self Help Groups has enabled women to gain greater control over resources like material possession, intellectual resources like knowledge, information, ideas and decision making in home, community, society and nation. In this paper study and analysis various activities of Self-help Group to word women empowerment and what are the impacts of these Self-help Group activities in Udaipur city, Rajasthan. Many activities are run toward women empowerment in Udaipur city by various self-help groups. These groups are Kiran SHG, Maa Rampurhin SHG, Maa Chaamnda SHG and many more. Some SHG are running activities like tailoring dairy farming, farming of vegetables etc.
