SWAPNAL BHATT
Abstract
The aim of the study is examine the relationship between teaching competency and emotional intelligence of pupil teachers. Teaching competency is one of the important component of effective teaching while emotional intelligence is concerned with the ability to understand, regulate and appropriately express emotions in interpersonal and professional situations. The study adopted a non-experimental correlational design. A sample comprising 50 male and 50 female total 100 pupil teachers, was selected. Teaching competency was assessed through the General Teaching Competency Scale (GTCS) developed by B. K. Passi and M. S. Lalitha, and emotional intelligence was measured using the Emotional Intelligence Scale developed by Anukool Hyde, Sanjyot Pethe and Upinder Dhar. Pearson's product-moment correlation was used to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and different dimensions of teaching competency. The supplied statistical table reports non-significant relationships for planning, closing and evaluation, and significant relationships for presentation, managerial and total teaching competency.
These findings indicate that emotional intelligence may be associated with selected aspects of teaching performance. However, the significance labels in the supplied table should be checked against the original statistical output before final publication.
