OF IMMORTALITY

DIBAKAR PAL

Abstract

Immortal is a person whose fame lasts forever. He is never forgotten. He dies never. He is so lucky that he is exempted from death. He enjoys unfading glory eternally. As such, he is divine in nature. He is remembered or celebrated through all time. He is one whose works will always retain their supremacy like one of the forty members of the French Academy. Thus immortality is a rare virtue. It cannot be achieved overnight. Only a blessed soul achieves that greatness. The soul is immortal. It never ceases to exist. It is not liable to perish or decay. It is constant. It enjoys deathless existence, as is believed by a pious heart. In fact, immortality is a belief. It is purely a concept. Also immortal is an immortal being, especially a god of ancient Greece and Rome. They say God created men. Another school of thought argues that men also created God. God is merely a hypothesis. Like God immortality is another hypothesis. Man is mortal. But God is immortal. Thus God’s creation dies and the creator, God Himself exists for ever. But, in case of man it is just reverse. For, man’s creation God exists and the creator, man dies. All tries but few succeed. Again all successful persons cannot be immortal. Only few fortunate souls can conquer and achieve that greatness. Immortality is divine in nature. Eternity alias endless time sweeps away everything. Only immortal person exists like a star that twinkles far from the galaxy.
