DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF RFID-BASED CAMPUS MONITORING SYSTEM: A COMPREHENSIVE RESEARCH STUDY

MR. YUDHISTHIR PRADHAN

Abstract

The rapid evolution of information and communication technologies has fundamentally transformed the operational frameworks of educational institutions worldwide. Universities and colleges today face unprecedented challenges in managing growing student populations, expanding physical infrastructures, and ensuring comprehensive safety and security measures. This research presents a detailed investigation into the design and implementation of an innovative Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based campus monitoring system that addresses these contemporary challenges while enhancing institutional safety, security, and administrative efficiency. The proposed system integrates RFID technology into existing student and staff identification cards, creating a seamless network of monitoring capabilities through strategically positioned RFID readers distributed across campus facilities. The collected data undergoes sophisticated algorithmic processing and analysis through a centralized server system, enabling real-time identification of irregular movement patterns, suspicious behaviors, and potential security threats.

The experimental implementation and evaluation of this system demonstrate remarkable effectiveness in tracking personnel mobility patterns while providing instantaneous alerts for unusual activities. Beyond security enhancement, the system generates comprehensive analytical data regarding campus mobility trends, supporting evidence-based administrative decision-making and strategic planning initiatives. The research findings emphasize the system's affordability, scalability, and adaptability, making it particularly suitable for educational institutions with evolving technological needs and budget constraints. This study contributes significantly to the growing body of knowledge surrounding smart campus technologies and provides practical insights for institutions considering similar technological implementations.
