SECURE INTEGRATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES INTO SMART GRIDS: CHALLENGES AND EMERGING SOLUTIONS

SHIKHA KUCHHAL, IKBAL ALI, IBRAHEEM

Abstract

India is rapidly increasing its use of renewable energy sources like solar and wind power to meet growing electricity demand and reduce pollution. To support this change, the country is moving towards smart grids, which are modern electricity networks that use digital technology to monitor and manage power flow. However, adding renewable energy to these grids is not easy. Solar and wind power are not always available and can cause problems with electricity supply and grid stability. Also, because smart grids use the internet and other digital tools, they are at risk of cyber-attacks.

This paper looks at the main challenges of connecting renewable energy sources to smart grids in a secure way, especially in the Indian context. It also suggests new solutions, such as using secure communication methods, blockchain technology, and machine learning to detect problems early. A small-scale Python-based system is developed to show how secure data sharing can work between solar inverters and control centers. Simulation results show that using secure methods improves system reliability and data safety. The study also gives policy suggestions for Indian power companies and government bodies to follow, so that the country can safely grow its renewable energy use.
