STATUS AND RELATIONSHIP OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONDITION AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF SCHEDULED TRIBE STUDENTS IN SECONDARY SCHOOL LEVEL IN WEST BENGAL

Abstract

In this research, the researchers examined and explored the relationship of socio-economic status on academic achievement of secondary school level students among Scheduled Tribe. The researcher applied descriptive survey research method for the current study and selected 450 Scheduled Tribe (ST) Secondary School students as a sample from tribe densely populated three districts of West Bengal. The socio-economic scale by Dr. Meenakshi used to investigate the nature of socio -economic status. The previous annual marks of the students considered as Academic Achievement of the students were collected from grade cards of students kept in schools’ record book. The researcher analysed the data by applying inferential statistical techniques. The result of the study showed that there is positive correlation exists between socio-economic status and academic achievement and no significant difference is found gender-wise in their socio-economic condition.
