LOCALITY DIFFERENCES IN ATTITUDES TOWARDS INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY AMONG PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS

KARTICK PAUL, DR. BRAMHESH SHRIVASTAVA

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has significantly transformed the educational landscape, influencing how teaching and learning processes are structured and delivered. Understanding the attitude of teachers towards ICT is essential, as it determines the successful integration of technology in educational settings. This study aimed to investigate whether there are differences in attitudes towards ICT between urban and rural physical education teachers.

A total of 40 teachers were selected from a B.P.Ed. Training institute in Bardhaman district, West Bengal—comprising 20 from urban backgrounds and 20 from rural areas. Data were collected using the standardized Nasrin and Fatima Attitude Towards ICT Scale, which includes 30 items rated on a five-point Likert scale. Quantitative analysis involving mean, standard deviation, and an independent ‘t’ test was used to compare the two groups.

The findings revealed that although the rural teachers had a higher average score compared to their urban counterparts, the difference was not statistically significant at the 0.05 level. This indicates that both groups demonstrate comparable attitudes toward ICT, regardless of their locality. The results underscore the potential of ICT to bridge the urban-rural divide in teacher education, provided that equal access and training opportunities are ensured. This study highlights the importance of incorporating ICT-focused training modules in physical education teacher programs to foster positive attitudes and enhance digital competence among future educators.
