Abstract

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis is a common disease of the aged population. It is rising by increasing age. Common risk factors are Age, trauma, weight usually in squatting and kneeling. Due to repetitive movements wear and tear of articular cartilage occurs to joint. There will be increasing pain and stiffness levels and loss of mobility as the disease progresses. Quadriceps and hamstrings muscles are significantly impaired in knee osteoarthritis.

AIM: To aim to measure the effectiveness of low intensity aerobic exercise versus resisted exercise on pain and function in subjects with knee osteoarthritis.

METHOD: Thirty people in all who have suffered from osteoarthritis are included in the study. Group A includes fifteen patients who were given Low-intensity aerobic workouts and resistance training was administered to Group B, which comprises of 15 people. Low Level Laser Therapy was administered to both groups as a component of traditional physical therapy. The Visual Analogue Scale was used to quantify pain before and after the intervention, and the KOOS was used to measure function.

OUTCOME MEASURES: VAS KOOS Questionnaire

RESULTS: When comparing Group B to Group A, two groups had significantly different effects of KOOS (p≤0.05) and VAS (p≤0.05) on pain reduction and function improvement. This was subjected to low level laser therapy in addition to resistance exercise.

CONCLUSION: There has been a notable improvement in the groups' capacity to decrease pain and increase function. According to the findings, resisted workouts combined with low level laser therapy (Group B) is a better combination for improving function and reducing pain in participants with knee osteoarthritis than low intensity aerobic activities combined with low level laser therapy (Group A).
