APPLYING SERVANT LEADERSHIP APPROACH AND INFLUENCE TO OVERCOME PROBLEMATIC PERSONNEL AT THE WORKPLACE

Abstract

Studies on how to deal with the problematic followers have attracted the researcher’s interest to help the employer or leader to overcome the issues of handling the problematic followers to improve productivity and achieving the organization goals. The servant leadership literature has a lot of evidence showing a positive relationship between servant leadership with employee attitude and job satisfaction as well as organizational performance. Servant leadership is both leadership philosophy and a set of leader practices while traditional leadership generally involves the accumulation and exercise of power by one at the top of the pyramid. The servant-leader shares power puts the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible. Many studies focus on quantitative analysis of subjects but these studies bring a complementary qualitative perspective. The study presenting the best practice on how to deal with this issue based on the Servant Leadership theory. Findings would be useful to help the young managers to deal with their problematic subordinates or followers as well as improving productivity and achieving the company’s goal. When leaders shift their mindset and serve first, they unlock purpose and ingenuity in those around them, resulting in higher performance and self-satisfied. A servant leader's purpose should be to inspire the people they influence. This paper seeks to demonstrate the conceptualities and how servant leadership makes the workforce more efficient in the organization and able to overcome problematic personnel at the workplace.
